THE BOLD AND THE SYSTEM
WE EXPOSE OURSELVES
WE EXPOSE HISTORY BOOKS
WE EXPOSE MUSEUMS
WE EXPOSE INTERGENERATIONAL TRAUMA
WE EXPOSE THE OTHER
Embodied knowledge -- starting from our own bodies and experiences
We formed a research group, as we all wanted to urge the discussion about the colonial present. Colonialism is often seen as something from the past.
Our embodied knowledge led to research about museums, intergenerational trauma, school curriculums and constructed narratives
Our created goal -- showing the degree to which the colonial way of thinking is still present in our everyday life
How are we going to do this?
• By provoking & shocking (Akwasi)
• By humor, exaggerating, parody (White fragility at the work place)
• Exposing framing and the use of language (Alexandra Bell)
Practice proposals and the down side of them
• Changing the title and descriptions of art works
Remarks: target group? Execution?
• Reframing charity posters
Remarks: Impact of this in general?
• Adding to history curriculum
Remarks: Who writes this? Who gets to be part of it? What is important?
• Episode of daily colonialism
Remarks: big project. What to include? Danger of humor overpowering the message.
• Creating an exhibition: Everyday Colonialism
Remarks: Too much, too big?
After reflecting on our ideas, we thought about a form of making public that can allow us to shift between different subjects while it still remaining the same mission. -- This moment marks the start of our collective.
To create a better understanding of how a collective works, we researched other collectives and found tactics that can be embodied by us.
To make our work public we wanted to create a zine, we got inspirered by the idea of activism through independent publishing. Due to the lack of censorship within this medium, a zine will offer us an empowering platform to challenge established narratives and share our views with you.
A zine alone, would not be sufficient get our message across, we need a ‘shocker’, something to get the conversation started and to activate the zine. We therefore created a multifunctional zine, with a poster on the back. The poster would be a reframed historical painting, as we want to urge the interrogation of the description texts and framed positions. The content of the zine would be linked to our research.
We missed an active action, therefore we wanted to expose the framing in one of the most iconic historical museums in the Netherlands, the Rijksmuseum. This would be in line with the poster on the back of the zine and would activate the conversation about the way institutions frame our colonial history. This idea eventually did not seem to work anymore.
Creating our identity -- what is our mission, vision, what is our tone of voice.
The exposing doesn't end online and doesn't end with us.

We need your help bringing this to a physical space. If you have any suggestions on where or how,you would want to expose colonialism, make sure to submit. Every submission will be valued, credited and used to grow this platform.
Finalizing the first zine.
Exposing our collective to you, the public.

WE EXPOSE OUR PROJECTS
Refining our strategy, how are we going to address the ‘system’/ institutions without burning any bridges nor being too polite. We created a 5-step guideline based on first aid rules, EHDB. 'Eerste hulp bij decolonisatie'.
